Oh, is the brown-shoed foot suppose to provoke me now? Well, it won't. All I'll say is brownie better start wearing some socks because those marble(?) pavements look really nice but are terrible on your feet and knees.

Are they lovers of lunch (as in the food and accoutrements of lunch) or are they lovers who meet at lunchtime.

This is a lovely portrait of a perfect moment inbetween appointments, work, errands, who knows what?

Hope you're feeling better, returning from the nasty cold to your usual standards of excellence!

"Momentary Academic" beat me to the punch. That was my question, too. I love your enigmatic photo captions, Pod.

Hope your cold is better! I thought mine was relapsing last night, but I feel OK this morning, so maybe it really is on the run...

BTW, I love that Akram Khan Web site! Mesmerizing, kind of. I'll watch to see when he performs here...

Old friend, old friend
Sat on their park bench
Like bookends
A newspaper blown though the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes
Of the old friends.

Old friends,
Winter companions,
The old men
Lost in their overcoats,
Waiting for the sunset.
The sounds of the city,
Sifting through trees,
Settle like dust
On the shoulders
Of the old friends.

Can you imagine us
Years from today,
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange
To be seventy.
Old friends,
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears

Washington, that's a great Simon & Garfunkel lyric. And you're right -- this photo does bring it to mind!

Lunch time lovers? Where's the love? I'd need to see more to believe you? My idea of lovers is more intimate. You know how the French behave on public benches!

Oooh - very Martin Parr. Gorgeous. I've got 2 Martin Parr's - fawn slacks and a sandwich on the knee and then slippers and socks on a bench - just a picture of the feet. Brilliant. xx

Yes Mr Parr is a big favourite of mine too - I'm glad to be the proud owner of two of his pics. Of course - I laugh as I chose the one with slippers and socks as the main subject - shoe freak that I am!! But seriously - your photo's are brilliant and don't you forget it. xxx
