TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED
If I had the wherewithal I would have somehow incorporated the music of 'Tales Of The Unexpected' to accompany this piece (perhaps even with a little avatar of me swirling around behind the flames).......hopefully you all know what I am talking about?
Anyhow, I took this about two years ago, on my then local beach, Raglan NZ. There was a really low tide, and all these little pools were scattered around, the sun shining in all of them. It reminded me a little of 'The Wood Between The Worlds'. If you have never read it, it is in 'The Magician's Nephew', the first book from 'The Chronicles Of Narnia' (you should, it is beautiful). It is a magical in-between world in a silent wood, with pools everywhere, and each pool is a gateway to another world.
I only had my old camera with me, for some reason, so excuse the poor quality, but I felt I had to show this. I am not sure how this happened; some strange polarising effect. Isn't it weird? What is it? The mountain in the background, Mount Karioi, is believed by some Maori to contain a portal to another dimension..........
Make your choice, adventurous stranger;
Strike the bell and bide the danger,
Or wonder, till it drives you mad,
What would have followed if you had.
(The Magician's Nephew - C.S.Lewis)

minion - i am pod once more, podu whilst in japan, poduki? possibly in poland? glad you like the pic, steal away. it was such a shock (almost) to get this photo back. i was puzzled and bemused for days. thanks for the link. i meant to do the same, but have gotten a little behind. bye for now
Yes, beautiful photo. I love that book too. The wood between the worlds, the place where you can hear the trees growing or something like that. I love it that the guinea pig is there too with the ring tied to his back.
I would always have struck the bell! And not just because the white witch is so sexy (or should that be secty?).
kitty luv - wouldn't it be great to meet up in the wood between the worlds and have a bit of peace! we could hold hands and ring the bell together
Oh Pod, yes that would be lovely. I'd wear my red dress for you!! Bagsy I have the White Witch though when we strike that bell!!! I'm sure we can find you a firm botty somewhere in Narnia!!
kitty, i fear that the white witch would have you for starters! (i think mr tumnus has a firm botty?)
come join us little purl one! you on the quest for bravery with kitty who is after the white witch (she thinks i am on a quest for firm botties, but infact i just want to admire the majesty and grandeur of the landscape)!
I love the idea of things you can look at transforming into other worlds. Sometimes really dramatic sunsets can look like groups of magic faraway island stretching out into the distance and into the horizon - especially when the contrast between the colours is high - like grey and yellow or deep pink and grey.
little purly - yes yes! please. get loads of bags of cheap crisps and cherry pop and meet us there. it will be brill! maybe we can get rockmother to come too. she can bring headscarves incase we get nippy maybe?
rockmother - i know exactly what you mean. i saw the most amazing sunset here once, and i could see a sea and a city in the sky with a castle and everything, all golden and elevated. i bet they really exist sometimes. i got really excited then that someone else has seen them too. they're amazing. love the way you described them. thanks! you have inspired a future post!!
Oh little purl one, yes please do join us. I can't drink pop but I'll watch you two drink it and laugh at you burping from the fizz of it all. Can we each choose a pool to step into? Bagsy I choose first!!
Pod: Mr Tumnus indeed. hahaha.
Goodness - Brown Owl sounds so repressed and uptight. Poor Brownies - it's psychologically damaging to question colouring in and pictures. They should just be what they are. And yes - I have seen a pink sun and an orange one and green stars and and and...
Pod - I'm so pleased too that someone knows what I am going on about seeing faraway magic lands in the sky. I saw one that looked like a wonderful ancient Chinese scene once - like the ones you used to see on old willow pattern plates. Most of my friends thought I was mad as I insisted how good it would be if it all really existed. As I child I used to daydream alot and IU used to lie on my bed and look out of the window and up to the sky so I had an uninterrupted view. Then I used to imagine that the clouds scudding across the sky were moving fast because I was actually on a big boat going across the sea! I told my friends Mum once at teatime and she told my mother that she thought I might be upset about something?! I just had an imagination! She was boring anyway.
goodness!
Kitty - thanks for unearthing my fascination for mr t. i reakise now why i felt drawn to him......and yes you can choose the first pool. come on, lets go!
Purlo - what an awful Brown Owl!! That is horrible, knocking creative confidence and imagination right out. She should be struck off! I bet Brown Owl really stands for B.O. Grrr! My art teacher was like that, and i gave up. i bet that happens a lot.
Rockmother - it is so very comforting to hear you speak about those worlds. I can't really explain, but I know exactly what you mean. Again, like Brown (F)Owl, your friends mum was totally off the mark. I wish I could show you the castle one I saw. It was so immense and intricate. And being on a boat on your bed! I am so pleased all this has come out. It has made my day. Thank you everyone!
oooh yes, I would love to feel the bumps on those bottles. I have no idea really what you are talking about but it sounds fun!!!
As for Brown Owl - she should be struck off or whatever. What piffle - I've seen loads of pink suns. Although I'm sure canary yellow is very def the colour that they paint their suns at rainbows in Norwich!!
Anyway, I have put on my red dress and I'm ready to jump in those pools. Let's go. Hang on to those crisps though.
i wonder where we will end up?! and where is molly? perhaps she is waiting somewhere for us
xx
