Oh, the simplicity of it all! This one I like. This background is the most blatant contrast to Todd's naturally loud coloring, and while some people have a penchant for subtlety, I am not one of them.
A tribute to the famous babycart-on-stairways scene from Sergei Eisnestein's "Battleship Potemkin"? Or to Hitchcock, as Ched suggested?
Oh the symbolic association...
Todd even inspired Elton John who once crooned in his honour: "Blue ears, baby's got blue ears..."

Those are some mighty big steps for such a little guy! But he looks very brave as he mounts them. Onwards & upwards, Todd!!
How do we know that the steps are not actually oriented so that he is standing on the riser, ready to prang out like a sort of long-necked spiderman giraffeman thing?

I first thought it was a roof. No edges to give you a sense of proper perspective, just the graphic diagonal lines, that's excellent!!!
